Baptism gives our souls the new life of sanctifying grace by which we become children of God and heirs of heaven.

Congratulations! We are so excited to welcome your child into our Catholic faith community at St. Peter! We are here to help you prepare for your child’s baptism.

In order to prepare, all parents who are baptizing their first child please plan to:

  1. Attend a Baptism Preparation Class. In this class, we’ll welcome you into the parish and discuss the beauty and goodness of the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism. This is the first step to prepare for your child’s baptism.
  2. Attend a Baptismal Living Class. In this class, you are invited into the home of parishioners to get to know them and other couples who will have a child baptized better and discuss how we can live our faith and prepare your child to do the same. Attending a Baptism Preparation class is a pre-requisite to attend Baptismal Living.
  3. Schedule a meeting with Fr. Clark. Fr. Clark would like to meet with every couple to welcome them to the parish and find out how he as pastor can help meet their spiritual needs. The meeting can happen anytime from when you attend Baptism Preparation class up to before the baptism. You can email Fr. Clark at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

It is strongly encouraged that parents attend prior to the birth of their child but it is not mandatory to do so. Your baby/child is welcome to attend class with you—no need to arrange for a babysitter.

In order to prepare, all parents who are baptizing second children or more or who have attended baptism preparation classes elsewhere, please call the parish office to schedule a baptism for your child.

A candidate for Baptism must have at least one sponsor, or godparent. The godparent cannot be the mother or father of the one to be baptized. The godparent must be at least 16, be a Catholic who has been baptized, confirmed, and has received the Holy Eucharist. You may choose to have one of the following:

  1. One Male Godparent
  2. One Female Godparent
  3. One Male and One Female Godparent
  4. One Male/Female Godparent and One Christian Witness of the opposite gender.

Godparents will be asked to provide documentation from their parish stating that they are a practicing Catholic in good standing. You may give your godparent selection(s) this form to present to the pastor of the parish where they are registered and attend Mass and ask them to complete and keep the godparent covenant as a reminder of the commitment he/she is making to your child.
