This is home page for parents of students preparing for 1st Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Peace of Jesus! Come Holy Spirit!
What a joy that you have a child preparing to encounter Jesus Christ in a new sacramental way. This is a year of grace for every member of your family.
Parents, please let us know you intend your child(ren) to receive a sacrament this year, First Holy Communion or Confirmation, by completing this short letter of intent by Friday, Sept. 29, 2023. All parents (St. Peter Catholic School, CCD, or homeschool families) are asked to complete this form. The information will be used to keep you, the parents informed and begin to create our sacrament registries.
23-24 Sacrament Letter of Intent
Overall, we will be asking you to do 2 things to help your student prepare as parents/guardians:
- We ask that at least one parent/caretaker attend a one-time Sacrament Meeting this fall. The meeting will give an overview of the program and expectations of sacrament preparations. Materials for sacrament preparations will be available for pick up at these meetings. The last meeting will be held in St. Paul Outside the Walls on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 4:30 pm.
- We ask that the family preparing a child(ren) for a sacrament have those child(ren) place their discipleship envelopes in the weekend collection and make it a habit to attend Mass at St. Peter. As a parish that values discipleship, we live a Way of Life that flows from the gift of new life and hope that comes from knowing Jesus Christ. We believe that we share a responsibility for developing our lives of faith and a special responsibility for forming our children in the Catholic faith. As a way to help children both share in the responsibility and more importantly, see that they too have something valuable to offer to our community, we will be assigning Mass envelopes. The envelope can be filled with a monetary offering, a prayer intention, a drawing, etc. Additionally, these envelopes allow us to help assess readiness for the sacraments through the family practice of keeping the Lord’s Day Holy. If you have questions about why these envelopes and how to use them please listen to this short audio segment:
Additionally, your family will need to take care of the routine preparations. For children, that means attending class, making the parish retreat, doing homework, learning prayers, etc. For parents, that means reading through informational emails regarding dates, dress codes, and paperwork that will be sent prior to the celebration of the sacraments that pertain to your family: First Penance, First Communion, and/or Confirmation. Confirmation students will be expected to complete the Sponsor Form, Sponsor Interview, Saint Poster, learn the 92 questions, and Service Hours in a timely fashion.
Finally, please attend the sacrament meetings to find out more about great opportunities to participate in your own faith formation at the sacrament meeting.
Thank you so much for your time! We pray this format will provide a way to open your hearts and your families to God’s grace throughout the months leading up to your child’s reception of the Sacraments. We also pray it will be a source of grace through communion with others. Know of our prayers for your families! God bless you!
